Second, the ending came just in time, which meant it didn’t feel empty. And third, I never knew I could get this sad with out a tragedy like the ones we commonly see and read. The character was pure and so so cute that it melted my heart. Damn with this amazing book.

What is Rising Action? The part of they story begins to develop the conflict(s). A building of interest or suspense occurs. What is the Resolution? The story comes to a reasonable ending. Resolution: Flowers for Algernon Charlie lost his knowledge and he pushes Miss Kinnian away So it's been a couple of weeks since I read Flowers for Algernon. I'm really thinking that it's my favorite book of all time. I know some may think it's not that profound, but for me I definitely believe it is a literary masterpiece, especially for it's time. I guess it's the whole concept of a lab experiment that takes a man from a mental retarded state to a rapid state of genius then back into the mire of darkness that really intrigues me. That, plus the star-crossed love story and the overall... This may be the only book that I would say was wonderfully written, but I did not enjoy it. This book was just so emotionally HEAVY. As Charlie becomes more intelligent and his memory opens up more.... My gosh. The depression, the anger, the fear, the anxiety... To approach this book in the first person was just such a bold move. Not that it should/could have been done otherwise. But I can't imagine the emotional strain Keyes' must have gone through to write this novel. Bravo, but I won't read...
Flowers for algernon plot diagram. Not only did I finish it, but I finished it in a winter storm.. at 3 o’clock in the morning. With no power. So there was no screaming at my fellow bookish fiends, or this sub — couldn’t even scream into a pillow because I didn’t want to wake my family. My only choice was to die internally. I know that I’m late, but.. phew. Update: Watchin’ Charly. See you in a bit. August 25, 2019 - In order to continue enjoying our site, we ask that you confirm your identity as a human. I was wondering if anyone here had read it in Portuguese (and maybe also in English), and if so, what do you think of the translation? (If you also have read it in English, how does it compare?) Since the book plays a lot on syntax and orthographic mistakes, I'm wondering if the rendition is good in the Portuguese version. Muito obrigad... I just read this and it was amazing. Are there any books like it? I'm already planning on reading Touch by the same author (Daniel Keyes). I read it in elementary school, it was one of those short stories inside of a reading textbook. From the creators of SparkNotes. THERE ARE SLIGHT SPOILERS BELOW. IF YOU HAVENT READ FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON DON’T YOU DARE READ THIS POST! Lets me introduce myself first. I’m a pretty bland guy in his early 20s. I don't laugh that much, don't get worked up easily, seldom express my emotions and I can’t remember in the prior 2 years when last I actually cried. As I’ve become older, I’ve become more “desensitized” to everything. Nothing really seems to “move” me anymore, emotionally that is, so I thought why not pick up a book th...
October 28, 2021 - Flowers for Algernon study guide contains a biography of Daniel Keyes, literature essays, quiz questions, major themes, characters, and a full summary and analysis. And I’m sobbing right now. It's the most depressing story, ending, everything. I don't know why I put myself trough it because I was feeling so bad for Charlie throughout the entire novel. It breaks me, the way he’s been treated by everyone especially himself is the most depressing shit ever put down on a page. I couldn't recommend this book to anyone since it's literally the worst reading experience of my life, this story is so cruel on such a fundamental level and seeing how Charlie descends ... First and foremost, the book was absolutely beautiful and I'm suffering from the worst book hangover. When I picked up the book, I didn't expect to identify and empathise so much with Charlie. I had gone in expecting my heart to be broken (which it did) from the parallels to Alzheimer's that I've seen in loved ones. I grew up in a Asian household where doing well academically and outward appearances were of utmost importance. As *the child* that did not "succeed", it is as though Daniel Keyes... The first half was promising and I raced through it. But... was I supposed to feel devastated and emotional after finishing it? I'm usually very sentimental and easy to make cry but this book just didn't do it for me. I understood the takeaway, but the ending was predictable and I just, didn't feel as impacted as everybody else did. I feel really bad about not enjoying it as much as other people. Does anyone else relate? Everywhere I go I just see people raving about the effect reading that book...

I've been reading this and was wondering what others with specialty in this field thought of the depiction of Charlie in the novel. I wanted to know if there was a problem with it or if anyone felt it was disrespectful, so that I could read the rest of the novel with some insight?
I received this book as a Christmas gift and it had been on my radar for a long time. I'm currently working in the field of scientific research, more specifically into the field of neurodegenerative diseases and I thought this might be an important read to improve my understanding of the ethics of research. Well, it has gone well and truly beyond the anticipated impact and has brought up memories of my Uncle Steven. My half-Uncle Steven was a boy who always had severe learning difficulties. He ...

P.S. I enjoy books that perhaps challenge my beliefs of right and wrong etc.
Watching him see it happen to Algernon first, then having to mentally prepare himself to go through the same experience is really sad. I spend most of my time alone reading books and articles and I believe that if you read a thousand books then you've lived a thousand lives. Watching someone have to go through being stripped of every one of the lives he accumulated because he wanted to be better was almost more than I could handle. What made it worse was when his previous Co worker saw that Ch...
The plot of the novel Flowers for Algernon revolves around the main character, a thirty-two-year-old mentally handicapped man named Charlie Gordon.
I first read this book when I was in my teenage years. Though I understood the main plot points and the aim of the author, I didn't *really* know the implications of the situation of Algernon. Now, I am a research scientist and I work extensively with mice. I re-read flowers for Algernon after what seemed like an eternity. But this time, the whole thing was in a brand new light to me. I always had a *research subject* as opposed to an *animal* approach to mice, but now it hit me differently. I ...

I just finished Flowers for Algernon and had to share my feelings with someone. Apart from the Karamazov brothers, this might be the best book I've ever read. It is hard for me to analyze everything I love about this book, but now once I've finished reading it every element seems to perfectly fit in the story. There are a lot of layers to the book and things it explores but one angle of the book wasn't much commented on from what I can see. It encapsulated the tragedy of human existence lik...

I loved this book but the main thing I took away from it was the feeling of empathy for the main characters condition. The way the book is written really makes you see things through his eyes and has made me think a lot more about what it must be like to be a person of lower IQ (not sure this is the right term.) I’d like some suggestions for other books that could give you a similar look into people’s condition. Be it elderly, mentally ill, maybe poor in a different country etc etc. I don’t ha...
